Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 3/4 cup milk

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting


Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and mix until just combined—don’t overmix!

  • Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep saucepan to 350°F (175°C).

  • Drop spoonfuls of batter (about 1 tablespoon each) into the hot oil. Fry 1–2 minutes per side until golden brown.

  • Remove bites with a slotted spoon and let drain on paper towels.

 

  • While warm, dust generously with powdered sugar and serve immediately!
